ITINERARY DETAILS Day 1: Cusco, Tarawasi, Cachora, Chiquiska (Choquequirao)
You will be greeted at your hotel at 3.00 am and taken by bus to move to the town of Cachora. Along the route, we will pass through the villages of Izcuchaca, Zurite, Tarawasi Limatambo until dawn and then stop in Cachora. Here we will be hiking towards the Apurimac River Canyon. We will walk through rich farmland and possibly see condors descending to the depths of the Apurimac Canyon, one of the deepest and most beautiful in the world. We will continue on to Capullichayoc (2.800 m) where we will get our first glimpse of the complex of Choquequirao. We will experience changes in vegetation and climate as we descend to our camp at Chiquiska (1.550 m).
Day 2: Chiquiska, Marampata, Raqaypata, ChoquequiraoAfter breakfast, we will cross the Apurimac River bridge and start climbing higher to the Santa Rosa area (2.290 m). The vegetation becomes abundant with the hotter weather and here we can appreciate the many fruit trees. Next, we will continue on to the fields of Marampata (2.850 meters) from where we can appreciate the marvelous view of Choquequirao Citadel located in the mountains. Further on we will reach Raqyapata where we will camp for the night and in the afternoon visit the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex with our guide.
Day 3: Choquequirao, ChiquiskaAfter breakfast, we will visit the lowlands and highlands of Choquequirao where we can appreciate more than 50 cultivation terraces covered with vegetation watered from a canal fed from the top of the mountain. Then we will continue on to Chiquiska and return to camp.
Day 4: Cachora, CuscoAfter breakfast we will rise early and continue toward the town of Cachora. During our bus tour we’ll enjoy the attractive view of the Salkantay snow, the mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba and the formidable Canyon Apurimac. We will arrive back to Cusco in the early evening.
