Description: This itinerary concentrates on the enigmatic Inca sites in and around Cusco and the Sacred Valley in the heart of the Andes Mountains in Peru’s interior. But just a 30-minute flight east of Cusco is the Amazon Rainforest Luxury And Travel Tours. Spend 4 or 5 days in the Amazon with naturalist guides in a luxury resort. Night excursions, boating trips, jungle walks, canopy excursions. It is a slower pace in the jungle due to the heat and humidity but equally as rewarding as all of Peru’s other eco-systems.
The Luxury Amazon Rainforest travel and Tours. You will be greeted by one of our friendly drivers upon your arrival to Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru. From there you will be driven in comfort by private car to either the Marriot at Larcomar, Miraflores Park Plaza Hotel or the Swissotel, depending on what you have chosen. All these fine deluxe hotels are located in the most exclusive, upscale residential and commercial districts of Lima. Our driver will not leave until you are checked in to your hotel.
Lima, Capital of Perú. Altitude 150 meters above sea level. After breakfast you will be met at your hotel to begin our guided tour of Lima, the fabulous “City of the Kings”. Visit the Plaza Mayor de Lima, the 16th century Cathedral of gold, followed by a tour of the catacombs at the Convento de San Francisco. We will end our tour in one of the wealthiest residential and most beautiful districts in Lima, Miraflores. There visit the pre-Inca ruins at Huaca Pucllana. Lunch and dinner throughout the day in the restaurants you choose to be included in your itinerary.
After breakfast and check out you will be greeted in your hotel and transferred to the Lima airport in time for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception at the jungle airport and transfer by canoe to the luxurious Reserva Amazonica jungle lodge. Packed lunch on the canoe while traveling through virgin rain forest. An introductory walk into the forest behind the lodge which is dominated by giant Brazil-nut and Dipteryx trees.
Frequently seen mammals on the trail are Saddle-back Tamarins, Brown Capuchins and Agoutis. Toucans and many other species of birds are also commonly sighted. Return for dinner, followed by a guided night walk to find nocturnal animals.
After traveling by boat for one and a half hours towards the Bolivian Border, you arrive at the Palma Real native village, home to some 70 Ese’ Eja families. A two-hour visit offers you an insight into the traditions and culture of this indigenous ethnic group, whose simple dwellings inspired the design of the Reserva Amazonica lodge. You will learn their lifestyle and livelihood, hunting and farming techniques, and the challenges the Ese’Eja face in a changing world.
A 35-minute motorboat ride from the lodge takes you to the magic world of Gamitana Creek. The sights, scents and sounds of the jungle will surround you as you walk for two and a half hours, rambling through the rain forest along the banks of this winding, dark-water creek that is home to piranha, caimans, turtles and an abundance of brightly colored birds. When you reach the embarkation point, board a canoe and navigate your way back downstream, appreciating the rich plant and animal life along the way. You will return to Gamitana Farm in time for a well earned picnic lunch, followed by a short guided tour to learn about the workings of this farm.
A dawn start is required for the canoe trip back to Puerto Maldonado with fabulous views of the sunrise over the river. Opportunity for early morning wildlife observation which is particularly active at this time. Howler monkeys are frequently heard, and your guide will assist in your arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport for the return flight back to Cusco. Reception and transfer to Hotel Monasterio.
After your breakfast this morning you will be able to take a tour of the city. This will include visiting the main square, Plaza de Armas and the temple of the sun (Coricancha) including the Cathedral. Afterwards we will take a short bus ride to visit the famous archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo and end in Puca Pucara. On your second night in Cusco you will be able to dine in one Cusco’s other very fine local restaurants of your choice.
After breakfast we will begin your private tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas north of Cusco. Our first stop will be the famous Indian market of Pisaq, a beautiful place to observe archaeological remains (the best days to visit are Tuesdays, Thursdays or Sundays). After Pisaq we will stop in Urubamba to enjoy a wonderfully prepared local lunch at a fine restaurant. Throughout the day we will stop at scenic overlooks for photo opportunities of the mountains and the traditional, colorfully dressed Quechua women, their children and alpacas.
The next major stop is the enormous walled city of Ollantaytambo where you will be able to appreciate the amazing complexity of Inca construction. If time permits you may visit the traditional town of Chinchero and see the fine handmade items made there.. At the end of the day after arriving back in Cusco we will see you safely back to The Monasterio Hotel where you will enjoy another fine dinner.
After breakfast you will be driven west comfortably to the Poroy train station 20 minutes from Cusco. At Poroy our guide will assist you in boarding the “Hiram Bingham” train, the most luxurious way to journey to Machu Picchu from Cusco. En route to Machu Picchu a brunch will be served as you are treated to spectacular views as you drive further into the Andes. Upon reaching “Aguas Calientes” at the base of Machu Picchu a specialized guide will show you the wonders of the lost Incan city, one of “The New Seven Wonders of the World“. Your guide will point out the importance of the building’s positions and their relationship to the sun and moon. After a day in Machu Picchu you will be treated to a fine dinner and accommodations at the only hotel adjacent to the ancient citadel, The luxurious Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.
This is the day to wake up early and be at Machu Picchu early to watch the sun rise over the “East Gate”. Enjoy a wonderful sunrise and it will make a perfect beginning to another wonderful and energetic day. Few people get to experience the ancient magnificence at sunrise of the one of most spectacular places on earth. After the day exploring the marvels, mysteries and accomplishments of Machu Picchu, cocktails and a gourmet dinner are served on the return train ride to Cusco aboard the luxurious “Hiram Bingham”. Our guide will meet you at the Poroy train station eager to hear of your experience and escort you back to the Monasterio Hotel in Cusco.
After breakfast you will be greeted in your hotel for your short ride to the Cusco airport for your flights to Lima and home.
