ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1: Arrive to Lima

After you arrive to Lima, pass through immigrations, retrieve your luggage, clear customs and enter the terminal your driver will be waiting with a blue & gold ILE Tours sign. You will be driven 45 min to check in to your Miraflores hotel. Overnight Lima.


Day 2: 14:00 Private Lima City Tour (1/2 day)

At 2 PM you will be met in your hotel lobby by your guide and driver and taken on a private city tour of Lima. Visit the Plaza Mayor and see the Presidential Palace. San Francisco Convent & catacombs off Lima Main Square is a sprawling monastery complex containing cloisters, convent, temple, 2 churches, library, the tomb of Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and catacombs completed in 1674. This is a meandering, thoughtful tour to enjoy frescoes on hallway walls, sculptures and history.

LOW CEILINGS IN DARK CATACOMBS! WALK SLOWLY, DON’T BANG YOUR HEAD IN LOW DOORWAYS, ARCHWAYS and LOW CEILINGS.

You will be returned to your hotel after the tour. Overnight Lima.


Day 3: Lima – Puerto Maldonado flight

After breakfast and check out be sure to leave nothing behind in Lima. You will be greeted in your Miraflores hotel and driven by private car to the Lima airport in time for your flight to Puerto Maldonado with a possible stop in Cusco. Group van/longboat transfer to jungle lodge. You will be greeted in the Puerto Maldonado airport greeting by your driver holding your lodge’s sign. Short drive through the city of Puerto Maldonado to the Madre de Dios River. Board your longboat and put on life-jacket for a picturesque ride along the river to reach your lodge. Humidity, birds, wildlife, plants, vegetation, and bugs are all here in this unique, whole Amazon experience. Welcoming drink and room check-in.


Day 4: 4/3 Jungle Lodge

Fresh food, luxurious tropical surroundings, fantastic guides, limited electricity & wifi. Daily jungle excursions with a naturalist guide to experience, learn and hike on rainforest trails adjacent to Tambopata National Reserve, Madre de Dios River and Sandoval Lake downriver from Puerto Maldonado.

This former cacao and rubber plantation was converted into “Fundo Concepcion”, an Amazonian medical catholic mission center in the 1950s. Now the Hacienda Concepción is a family-friendly amazon lodge that will introduce you to the biodiversity of the rainforest through the wide range of land and river jungle excursions.

Day 6: Puerto Maldonado – Cusco flight

After breakfast checkout of your lodge and please be sure to leave nothing behind. You and your hotel group will return to the Puerto Maldonado airport by group longboat and van. Short flight to Cusco where you will be met and taken by private car to check in to your hotel. Rest, acclimate and drink the complimentary coca tea provided by your hotel. Eat lightly and do not exert yourselves until you’ve acclimated to Cusco 11,000 ft elevation. 24 hrs of rest and eating lightly after arriving to Cusco is all it takes most to acclimatize. Overnight Cusco.


Day 7: Private Sacred Valley Tour. Ollanta – Aguas Calientes Train.

After breakfast store your large luggage with your Cusco hotel’s front desk and bring an overnight or carry-on bag. The trains cannot accommodate large luggage. At 09:00 you will be met by your guide and driver in your Cusco hotel and taken on a tour of the Sacred Valley. Drive north from Cusco to the the artisanal town of Chincheros with its small church where some of Cusco’s finest weavings are handmade.

Lunch today is at a hacienda-style house to relish local Andean food such as the super grains-quinoa, kiwicha and maca, alpaca meat and other wonderful local dishes. Finally, climb the magnificent wall of Ollantaytambo. Rugged steps rise high above the small town to see where and how the Incas guarded the Sacred Valley to the north. More Inca miraculous stones await you at the top of the wall. The train station at Ollantaytambo is where you will board your afternoon train to Aguas Calientes (90 min). You will be met in Aguas Calientes and escorted (walk) to your hotel. Overnight Aguas Calientes.


Day 8: Private Machu Picchu tour. Aguas Calientes – Cusco Train/bus

After breakfast check out and store your overnight bags with your hotel. You will be met by your guide to walk to the buses to take you up to Machu Picchu’s entrance (20 min). Enjoy 2 hrs with your guide then have plenty of time to hike and explore the park on your own. Machu Picchu was probably an estate of the Inca Pachacutec, who also designed Cusco.

It was a town with individual homes for nobility made in the classical Inca style with polished dry-stone walls. Its 3 three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. The magnificence of this site is fully appreciated at sunrise. As the mist rises just after sunrise the site itself is revealed to you. Like a saddle straddling a mountaintop, Machu Picchu sits hidden amongst other spectacular surrounding mountains. When finished take one of the continuous running buses back down to Aguas Calientes. Retrieve your bags from your hotel and be at the train station in time for your train back to Ollantaytambo. You will be met and taken by private car back to your Cusco hotel by private car. Overnight Cusco.


Day 9: Private Cusco City Tour (½ Day afternoon)

At 2 PM you will be met at your hotel to enjoy the wonderful sites around the city. Sacsayhuaman 15 minutes outside of Cusco with huge walls comprised of monolithic stones, Q’enqo a small cave like structure used in Inca ceremonies, Pucapucara the small fortress and Tambomachay with its fountains and small canals. All of these sites are near each other and played an important part in the Inca’s ceremonies religious and civic. After completion of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel. Overnight Cusco.


Day 10: Cusco-Lima-home flights

After breakfast and check out be sure to leave nothing behind in your Cusco hotel. Hotel greeting and private transfer to the Cusco airport in time for your flight to Lima. In Lima you will not be met. Simply check in to your flight or proceed to the gates on the second floor with your hand luggage and boarding passes.
