Sandoval Lake Tours

Lake Sandoval is within the jurisdiction of the Tambopata National Reserve, 1 hour from the city of Puerto Maldonado (8 km approximately), on the right bank of the Madre de Dios River.

Lake Sandoval is listed as one of the most beautiful and beautiful lakes of the Peruvian Amazon. It is a masterpiece of lake geography.

It is a splendid space for the observatory of birds like the herons, macaws, small parrots, kingfisher, wild ducks, hoatzín or shansho (a kind of wild hen with a feather bow on the head) and toucans; and also various species of lizards, such as the black lizard, alligators, giant otters or river wolves, small primates, tapirs, turtles, and a multiplicity of butterflies.

It originates on one of the meanders of the Madre de Dios River, on its right bank. It is three kilometers (1.86 miles) long, one kilometer (0.62 miles) wide and one depth ranging from 0.5 to three meters (1.64 to 9.84 feet). It has the shape of a crescent. The average water temperature is 26 ° C (78.8 ° F).

Sandoval is surrounded by wide aguajales, a marshy ecosystem where the palm tree grows (Mauritia flexuosa), whose branches fall until the own lake. Trees of mahogany, hungurahui, lupuna, banana trees are observed.
