The Amazon Rainforest is a quick 30 min flight east of Cusco to Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon’s Tambopata Reserve. Fantastic jungle lodges in all prices ranges line the Madre de Dios River. All lodges includes all fine meals of locally grown vegetables and fruits as well as daily jungle excursions with a Naturalist Guide to learn about, explore and discover the wonders of the Amazon.

Although weather and each lodge ultimately determines the program, below is a sample of what to expect. Also the nature of the rainforest, weather, rainy season and the highly protected reserve can cause last minute changes. 3, 4 & 5 day Amazon programs are the most popular.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1: Cusco – Puerto Maldonado flight, Tambopata jungle lodge

On arrival of your flight to Puerto Maldonado from Cusco, our guides or staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the centre of the town where you can experience the exotic local market. Depending on the arrival time of the flights we may have the first lunch here or while travelling to the lodge or in the lodge.

Your excess luggage will be stored safely in our office in Puerto Maldonado and then we will continue onto the port.

We take our private bus along the Madre de Dios river for approximately 1 hour to Tambo Jungle Lodge. A cool welcome drink awaits you will be shown to your bungalows to settle in.

In the afternoon we will take a 30 minute boat journey to Monkey Island where you appreciate a great diversity of monkeys such the: spider, capuchin, tamarines y squirrel monkeys as well as racoons, capybaras and a rich variety of birds.

Return to lodge for a traditional dinner of locally grown vegetables and fruits.

Nocturnal activities are available some nights. These range from nocturnal walks, talks on different topics and caiman spotting when optimal.

Day 2: Tambopata jungle lodge

After a great jungle breakfast, we take 1 and half hour walk to the famous Sandoval Lake, passing through virgin forest, home to beautiful flora and fauna including: Giant Otters, birds, alligators, turtles, and variety of fish. We will spend few hours in canoe on this, one of the most beautiful lakes in region. One of the most awe inspiring features of the jungle is the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base of the huge kapok tree.

We may take a short visit on the traditional farming areas to see the production of regular supplies.

Day 3: Tambopata jungle lodge, Taricaya Project

Enjoy a jungle breakfast before traveling further 1 hour down the river to the Taricaya project to specialized trails where your guide will lead you. Here you will discover the amazing ecosystem up close (canopy) along with an array of trails.

We will further amaze you with the marvels of the jungle through a gentle hike where you will learn to recognize bird’s calls, footprints and plants.

This day we will visit a local family who will show us different aspects of their life.

Day 4: Tambopata jungle Lodge. Puerto Maldonado-Lima flight

Early in the morning, before breakfast we will rise and take a 90-minute boat ride to see the parrots gather at the clay lick. The parrots eat the clay to offset any toxins they eat in the jungle.

After returning to the lodge after an hour watching the parrots and taking photos we will return to the lodge for breakfast before returning to the airport for our flight back to Cusco.
